Brand strategy: thinking before design

What comes first:
Design or strategy?

The most useful business consulting is the kind that defines brand strategy before design: who you are, who your client is, and where you want to position yourself. Without this foundation, you risk building a visual identity that no longer reflects your brand two years from now.

When it makes sense to start here:

  • Your team and your clients understand your brand differently

  • You're growing, but your communication hasn't kept up

  • Your competitors have clear positioning, and you don't

  • You want to launch something new without missteps

  • You're looking for investors, but your value proposition isn't clear

How I work

Phase 1: Discovery

Interviews with you, your team and, if possible, some of your current clients. Competitive audit. Analysis of the market and trends in your industry. Output: a shared, discussed positioning document.

Phase 2: Strategy
  • Brand promise: what you promise, what you actually deliver

  • Target audience: who the decision maker really is

  • Positioning check and competitive benchmarking

  • Messaging architecture: consistency across different channels

  • Roadmap: what, when, priorities and budget

Phase 3: Guided Implementation

The strategy doesn't end with the document. I guide your team through the rollout, design the resulting assets, and integrate with your website, social and print. Training to maintain consistency over time. We can structure monthly, six-month or annual plans.

Consulting built around your reality

Every project needs a different analysis.
What doesn't change is the focus: your company's actual context and reality.

Start-Ups and New Projects

Position yourself well from the start. Avoid having to correct course a year from now, once you've already built the wrong expectations.

Established Businesses

Your company grew faster than its branding. I help you align it with who you are today, and prepare it to evolve organically.

Brands in Transition

You want to change market, audience, or offer. Mapping out a strategy step by step helps manage the change without putting the brand at unnecessary risk.

Investor Pitch

Communicating your value proposition effectively takes preparation, not improvisation. Let's build a strategy and an action plan that works.

Having a logo or a website isn't a strategy. It's the MVP.

In a globalised, hypercompetitive market, differentiation is what matters. Isolated assets don't help.

Brand identity is essential to bring the brand to life, and a good website lets clients find you and trust you. But if the identity exists and the market still doesn't understand you, the problem is strategic.

In 90 minutes we can work out together what you actually need. Strategy, logo or website: the analysis will tell us what to do.

Still putting off brand strategy?

Bad idea. The right time was when you started!

The second right time is now. The more your company grows, the more expensive it gets to correct and align the strategy.

You don't need a long, expensive project by default. You need an honest conversation about where you stand and where you want to go. From there we'll understand what makes sense to do, and in what order. And if there's a lot to do, we can structure an evolving plan.

"After years working with brands across different industries, I learned something: the problem is almost never the logo or the website. It's that the company hasn't yet clarified what makes it different from everyone else. Everything else comes after."

You don't need to know everything before starting.

You need to know that something isn't working the way it should.
